Entry-Level Cybersecurity Analyst · Identity & Access Management · Financial Services Operations

Foreword

Every account I've ever touched belonged to someone else. That's the job — and it's also, I've come to realize, the whole discipline of security.

I didn't come to cybersecurity through a computer science degree or a childhood spent breaking into systems. I came to it through years of protecting the financial lives of BMO's private banking clients — reading documentation closely enough to catch what shouldn't be there, keeping records the way an auditor would want to find them, and treating every piece of client data as something I was trusted with, not something I owned. Somewhere in that work, I realized I already had the instincts the field asks for: least privilege, verification before trust, discretion as a default. The certifications and the labs came after, to give that instinct a name and a technical vocabulary.

This site is where that transition lives — the resume, the hands-on projects, and the reasoning behind the move. I'm not pivoting away from years of financial operations experience. I'm applying it somewhere it's been needed the whole time.

About Calvin

I'm a financial-services operations professional based in Toronto, currently working toward a career in cybersecurity. Over the past several years at BMO, I've built a career on discretion, precision, and reliability — reviewing confidential client documentation, supporting audit and risk-review readiness, and safeguarding sensitive information every day. I hold certifications in security fundamentals and identity and access management, and I'm most effective working with sustained focus on detail-critical, confidentiality-sensitive tasks.

I'm looking for an entry-level opportunity with a Canadian financial institution where accuracy, trustworthiness, and a security-first mindset make the difference.

Recent Highlights

UHNW Account Opening Recognition

Recognized by branch leadership for efficiently opening six Ultra-High-Net-Worth (UHNW) client accounts within a compressed timeframe — nominated for the firm's Grand Ovation recognition award, with commendation sent directly to management.

AI Document-Review Proposal

Identified a manual, error-prone document-processing bottleneck and proposed an AI-assisted review agent to leadership, accepted for implementation to cut processing time and ease the workload behind staff fatigue. Prototyped independently as the Account Onboarding Agent project.

Why Cybersecurity

Every role I've held in banking has come down to the same core responsibility: protecting information that isn't mine, exactly the way it's supposed to be protected. Reviewing client documentation, catching discrepancies before they become problems, keeping records audit-ready — that's security work, even when the job title says "operations." Certifications gave me the vocabulary and frameworks to match; my own IAM and cloud-security labs (see Projects) gave me the hands-on practice. Cybersecurity is the natural next step, not a pivot.
